About the Project:
Within the scope of this EU-FP7-NEED4B project, different typologies and sizes of buildings located in five countries with different climate regions and cultures have been constructed. In this context, the SCOLA building at Özyeğin University was conceptualized and constructed as a demonstration building, and the performances that qualified to be energy-efficient were documented by monitoring the performance of the building over 3 years. The project is a solid example of integrated engineering and architecture principles. The proper functioning of the building is achieved by using the data received from the modeling of integrated design processes and based on computer simulations, and following a 5-D work process, including the facility management concepts. Some of the examples of innovative and adaptive materials and systems used in the SCOLA building include rock wool, solar shades, earth-to-air heat exchangers, solar panels, visualization of automation and user behavior.
Project Finding:
In order to respond to the '20-20-20 by 2020' targets initiated by the EU towards energy efficiency, energy saving and renewable energy applications in line with the objectives of the ongoing project and to add a new dimension to the concept of 'campus of green buildings', energy efficient buildings have been developed with Spanish, Italian, Belgian and Swedish partners.
