About the Project:
Gender inequality arising from social norms prevents particularly women from realizing their full potential in the fields of research and innovation. PLOTINA is a project which aims to conduct gender equality analyses in partner institutions and design institution-specific gender equality plans in the light of these analyses, thereby revealing women’s wasted potential. One of the main objectives of PLOTINA is to increase research excellence and the social value of innovations by developing, implementing and monitoring institution-specific gender equality plans in the project’s Research Performing Organizations. In the first stage of the project, a number of focus group and one-to-one interviews were carried out in all academic units and many administrative bodies at OzU, a situation analysis on gender equality was made and existing gender-related attitudes were investigated. A comprehensive report was produced on the basis of this work. This report gave way to a Gender Equality Plan to be implemented by 2020, and this implementation process constitutes the second phase of the project. In the third phase, the outcomes of the plan’s application will be evaluated and the results will be shared internationally in the form of "good practice databases" and publications. The above-mentioned plan includes actions related to the structure of administration and institutional policies, work-personal life integration for academic and administrative staff, research activities, and educational services.
Project Finding:
As PLOTINA is a long-term and comprehensive project, it has a large number of outputs. The main results obtained in the first stage can be summarized as follows: Gender-awareness in the university’s decision-making bodies was analyzed; the gender distribution in decision-making bodies was investigated; the statistics of faculty members' career progressions were obtained on a gender-based scale; the degree to which gender sensitivity is reflected in the curriculum was analyzed; and the presence of gender as a variable in research projects was investigated. Based on these outputs, a Gender Equality Plan has been published, decisions have been made to form a Gender Equality Committee, Gender Equality Office is established and gender equality is expressed in the official documents of OzU as a sustainable policy and practice. Changes and improvements regarding the mentioned outputs will be monitored during and after the PLOTINA Project.
